Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez Announces Launch of Luxury Multimedia Platform

Roc Nation has announced a new partnership designed to create a multimedia platform devoted to the celebration of luxury and culture.

The partnership with Modern Luxury Media, one of the nation’s biggest luxury media companies, is the latest venture to expand the scope and impact of Roc Nation, the groundbreaking entertainment company led by Desiree Perez .

EDITION Designed to Amplify Diverse Voices

Desiree Perez, the co-founder and chief executive officer of Roc Nation , hailed the partnership as an opportunity to amplify new voices from diverse communities with a partner with a proven record of accomplishment. Perez founded Roc Nation with Jay-Z, her longtime friend and business partner.

The new platform is called EDITION by Modern Luxury. It aims to be a destination for powerfully compelling audio and visual content, along with creative print and digital storytelling. Its aim is to inspire audiences to continue to pursue excellence.

In announcing the new venture, the two companies noted that the platform was designed to amplify and elevate voices that were shaping popular culture.

EDITION is slated to launch in the winter of 2021 across print, digital, social, and what the companies call “experiential activations.”

EDITION will feature insider content and more in-depth audio and video storytelling via hidden tokens that are embedded in each issue.

The platform is designed to cater to digital natives by featuring a diverse group of talent and content creators. The two companies want the platform to be a “constantly evolving and truly immersive experience.”

Isoul H. Harris, an award-winning journalist who previously led UPTOWN Magazine, a lifestyle publication for affluent African-Americans, has been named editor in chief. Harris has also produced experiential programming and digital lifestyle content for American Express Platinum, Microsoft, and Morgan Stanley.

Collaboration Hailed as First of Its Kind

The new platform is being hailed as the first of its kind — a brand that touts the importance of positive achievements and the responsibility to pay it forward.

Desiree Perez lauded the collaboration , noting that Modern Luxury Media had a strong legacy. She noted that Modern Luxury Media had a long track record of creating brands that focus on luxury and promote content that is both aspirational and influential. She said that the company was an ideal partner for Roc Nation with which to launch the new venture.

John Amato, principal at Modern Luxury Media, noted that luxury publications have long lacked a commitment to diversity. He called the platform an opportunity for diverse communities to connect in new ways.

The move is another bold strategy for Perez, who founded Roc Nation with Jay-Z in 2008. Primarily known for its work as an entertainment and sports powerhouse, Roc Nation’s business includes a record label, event management, representation of sports and entertainment figures, and tour management. Its client list reads like a who’s who of popular culture and includes Christina Aguilera, Big Sean, DJ Khaled, Nick Jonas, Alicia Keys, Kyrie Irving, Meek Mill, Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, and Megan Thee Stallion.

The Roc Nation empire includes media representation, publishing, touring, sports, and clothing lines.

Desiree Perez was named CEO in 2019 after more than a decade as chief operating officer. Perez has helped lead the company to a series of recent significant moves related to its business, including:

  • The purchase of SENSO tokens, the in-platform Ethereum-based cryptocurrency of Sensorium Galaxy, a to-be-released virtual reality platform created owned by the Sensorium Corp., founded in 2018 by Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov.
  • Creation of the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment at Long Island University in Brooklyn to provide students access to industry experts and identify the next generation of talent.
  • Collaboration with The Parent Company, a vertically integrated cannabis company. Perez sits on the board and oversees its social equity investment fund.
  • Sale of the Tidal streaming service to Twitter founder Jack Dorsey.
